Ringtones started off as bad electronic sounding music that was really just the melody for a popular song. Some of these ringtones were recognizable and some of them were just funny. It was fun in the beginning to listen to the small short snippets of the song and try to identify it. However nows when a phone plays a song, the song is unmistakable and normally has words to go along with it.
Of course people inevitable got bored with only have songs as ringtones on their phones and new funny ringtones were created, well funny for some people. Most of these new funny ringtones are weird little men with scary voices that yell and swear at you to answer your phone. These funny ringtones can be found in a variety of accents and with a variety of commands and insults accompanying the demand that you answer your phone.
Personally I find these amusing though a bit immature, but hey everyone has to be a little immature every now and then. However I don’t think I would ever actually put on of these tones on my phone. You will mostly find these ringtones on the phones of teenagers and overgrown children. Or adults have them but more just to laugh at because hopefully they realize how inappropriate they are to let ring in public.
I have friends that have these, and they love them for about 2 days, and then they inevitably become as annoyed with them as everyone else is. I am not sure what other funny ringtones there are. I am sure there are some that are cutesy and funny without being crass and offensive, but as most of my friends are fairly young I have to confess I have yet to hear them.

It’s very easy to be funny by being goofy and having others laugh at you – but it is not good. Why? When people are laughing at you, you are generally lower in social status than they are.

You’ll notice that I included ‘goofy.’ Yes, you can still engage in goofy humor. It’s playful, disarming and I personally love it. Just don’t be a goof to laugh at.

I’m also not suggesting that you take yourself ultra-seriously and never allow anyone to have a laugh at your expense. Just don’t encourage it in order to get the approval or attention of those around you.

If others laugh at something you said or did, have enough confidence to laugh with them, or reverse the joke back on the person/people.

For example: You walk out of the bathroom and your zipper is undone. Suddenly, your friend John points, laughs and begins the subtle social process of having everyone get involved and laugh at you.

You stop walking. Remaining composed, you begin to nod slowly. With a grin on your face, you say, “I knew it – John is secretly gay! What’s the first thing he looks at when I walk into a room? My zipper – John, you have issues man.”

Congratulations. You have just defused the situation and John probably feels a little silly for pointing it out. He may just think twice before trying that sort of thing on you again.

Note: Be playful with this kind of behavior. Don’t become the loser who tries to make people feel lousy in front of others. The point is to maintain your air of social status, while being playful and not becoming the butt of jokes.

Many years ago a wonderful friend of mine asked me what the smallest part of the body is. I was very young and probably very stupid at the time and I responded with “Duh, a finger.” He commented to me, “No it’s the tongue.” He also said to me that although the tongue is the smallest part of the body it can do the most damage. I never forgot the conversation that I had with him; unfortunately he has since passed away and I miss him dearly. I could sure use a lot more of his advice and teaching. Our words can really do some damage. Damage sometimes that can be life long, and sometimes we don’t even know what were doing, probably because we just were never taught how to shut-up. Kids and adults can shoot their mouth off and think that they are being funny, or that they’re standing up for themselves when in reality they may be doing more harm than good. I was watching a baseball game very recently and watched one of the players go crazy over a called third strike. This is a grown man. He had to be restrained by 3 other players and the manager. Of course he was thrown out of the game. He was also suspended for three games right in the middle of a pennant race. I guess he really showed them. What a dope.

We also like to have laughs at someone else’s expense. My philosophy is if we both aren’t laughing it’s not funny. Kids today have a real problem with behavior like this. They say things, get a laugh and really hurt the feelings of another person. I don’t even think that they are aware of the fact that people are listening and not everyone is impressed with their wit, and that they are creating a negative image of themselves in the minds of other people.

That wonderful friend of mine who talked to me about the tongue was also full of illustrations and stories that were inspiring and instructional. He illustrated this societal problem with a true story that I always refer to as the “Deaf Boy Story” and it is worth sharing here.

There were two boys who were brothers. One of the boys was deaf. They had a friend who hung around with them all the time. This friend was the biggest jokester on two feet. He was always telling jokes or making fun of someone or something. One day the three boys were headed out of the house and this jokester started to make fun of the way the deaf boy spoke. Well the deaf kid couldn’t hear, and the brother gave a half hearted laugh and they left the house. No harm no foul? The deaf kid didn’t hear so no one got hurt. No one else heard right? No one heard except the deaf kid’s father who was reading the paper in the den.

Let’s fast forward the tape. At the time of this incident these two boys were sophomores in college. Two years went by and they both graduated with degrees in business administration. They both went on the job hunt. This jokester had an interview with a large insurance company. He had to go through one more phase of the hiring process. He had to meet the Vice-President of the company. Who do you think the Vice-President was? The deaf kid’s father, and the only perception that he had of this young man was that he had made fun of his son. It cost him……..the job. People hear and they watch too. You never know when you are going to need someone or something. The things that are the greatest desires of our hearts are the things that will be withheld from us because of our past words or actions. Self-control is important and if your tongue, a one ounce body part, has more control over you than you have over it, it will cost you when least expect it. You never know.

A world without Bernie Mac is a world less funny. After getting the news today of Bernie’s death, I knew we lost one of the greats.

Bernie Mac with Co. stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney in Ocean’s 11, 12 & 13 were my personal favorite movies, But Bernie Mac starred in so many other great films.

I was getting ready for a great day of riding and I heard the news, So I felt inspired to create a tribute for Bernie.

As I know George Clooney and Brad Pitt and all the other stars of the Ocean’s Hit movie series are devastated by such a loss. I too feel a sense of emptiness.

Bernie Mac kept me laughing… and I wanted this video to convey my sincere condolences to the entire Mac Family, even if it’s just a modisit one.

Thanks Bernie for all your laughs, You will be missed. R.I.P.
